The first official trailer has been released bringing back the loving characters of Gru, Lucy, the girls, and the Minions. The animated comedy film is going to release in theaters on July 3, 2024 following the 2022 prequel ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ (Voiced by Steve Carrell). This film is the latest entry in the hugely successful franchise from Universal and Illumination. The storyline of the new extension tells us about the reformed iconic supervillain cum anti-villain league agent Gru, trying to be a good guy and finding his true family. We will see the returning of actors like Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Chris Renaud, Dana Gaier, and Pierre Coffin to this 4th installment. ‘Despicable Me 4’ will have Will Ferrell, Joey King, Sofia Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman and Madison Polan voicing new characters.
While Steve Carell has returned to lend his voice to the character of Gru once again, the newly released trailer provides viewers with a tantalizing glimpse into the fresh challenges faced by the reformed supervillain.
Notably, Will Ferrell has lent his voice to Maxime Le Mal, the newly-introduced nemesis for Gru while Sofia Vergara portrayed ‘Valentina’, Maxime’s glamorous and disastrous girlfriend. The Gru family is forced to go on the run, marking a breathtaking and chaotic adventure. Apart from these new enemies, the plot also involves a new family member for Gru and Lucy – Gru Jr., their baby boy who is intent on annoying his dad.
The ‘Despicable Me’ franchise has become a global sensation since its first release in 2010. The third installation, released in 2017, made over $1 billion at the box office worldwide exceeding the ‘Shrek’ series as the highest- grossing animated film franchise of all time. Part of the franchise’ success credit goes to its most iconic and memorable characters, the Minionese-speaking yellow Minions. These loveable Minions serve as Gru’s ‘Sidekicks’ but in keeping with demand, they have become stars in their own spinoff films, ‘Minions’ and ‘Minions: The rise of Gru’.
Chris Meledandri, Illumination co-founder, produces ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Despicable Me 2’ director Chris Renaud co-directs with Patrick Delage while Mike White serves as writer.
