Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has revealed that she is in the early stages of treatment after being diagnosed with cancer.
She says in a video statement it was a ‘huge shock’ after an ‘incredibly tough couple of months’.
Kate, however, remains positive, saying. “I am well and getting stronger every day.”
Kensington Palace has not revealed specific details about the princess’s cancer, but assures the public of their confidence in her complete recovery.
In her statement, the princess clarifies that during her abdominal surgery in January, there was no prior knowledge of any cancer.
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” said the princess.
She expressed her thoughts for all those impacted by cancer, saying, “For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
Catherine mentioned that her recovery from surgery has been a gradual process, and her main focus now is her family.
“William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
The princess added: “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.”
She emphasizes that the family now needs “some time, space and privacy”.
Catherine and Prince William are not expected to join the Royal Family on Easter Sunday, and the princess won’t be resuming her official duties anytime soon.
The palace explained that Prince William’s unexpected absence from a memorial service in late February was due to Catherine’s cancer diagnosis being discovered.
Since her abdomen surgery in January, the couple has been under intense public scrutiny and social media attention regarding her health. She hasn’t participated in any official events since Christmas. Her video message on Friday follows weeks of speculation about her health and whereabouts.
Kate was last seen in public at her local farm shop on Saturday, and a video was published in the Sun newspaper on Tuesday.
In her video message, she mentioned the support from her family, saying, “Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance, too.”
“As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”
Kensington Palace announced that the princess’s video was recorded on Wednesday by BBC Studios, which is the production department of the BBC.
Online rumors surrounding that video clip have continued to spread, sparking more hysteria and conspiracy theories.
